Maryvonne
Chartier-Raymond
Since
1987, the egyptologist and archaeologist Maryvonne Chartier-Raymond
has participated in a number of missions in the Nile valley
and on the Sinai Pensinsula with the universities of Lille
(France) and Louvain (Belgium).
In the
northern Sinai, she worked on the fortress of Tell el-Herr
with the mission of Professor Dominique Valbelle (of the University
of Lille and the Sorbonne). She also participated in an international
survey of archaeological sites in the northeast Nile Delta,
and has worked in the southern Sinai on copper and turquoise
mining sites that were active from the Old to the New Kingdom.
In the
Nile valley, she has worked with Professors Jan Quaegebeur
(University of Louvain) and Claude Traunecker (Universities
of Lille and Strasbourg) on the Roman-period Egyptian temple
of Chenhour.
She has
published articles on the mining sites of the southern Sinai
and participated in the publications of findings from the
northern Sinai and Chenhour.
On May
1, 2008, she became president of the Basler Forum für
Ägyptologie (more).
She is
vice president of the International Association for the Study
of Ancient Egyptian Law (Association Internationale pour
l'Etude du Droit de l'Egypte Ancienne - AIDEA) (more).
She is
also vice president of the Alliance Française de Bâle
(more)
and member of the Union des Français de l'Etranger
/ Union des Français et Francophones de la Région
de Bâle (more).
She is
known to the public in the Basel area for her courses,
lectures and tours,
and sporadically publishes the Chroniques
de Merit-Neith.
