Watching and guiding passengers

One section of the Zurich dispatching center watches over and to some extent guides the flows of pedestrians in the Zurich suburban (S-Bahn) stations of Stadelhofen, Stettbach and the four underground S-Bahn tracks of Zurich main station.

Video cameras - which the police can also watch - watch the people.

(Other cameras let the police keep an eye on businesses in the stations and the baggage lockers.)

From the Zurich dispatching center, SBB people can give passenger information, for example notice of a track or platform change, and see whether passengers are reacting to the announcement or not. In case of a change of platform, passengers need longer to walk to the new track, and the cameras help monitor their progress.

Cameras also watch call boxes where passengers can ask for emergency help. About once a month, a call concerns someone who is ill - and about once a year, a criminal problem.
