Work projects and the SBB schedule

The normal schedule, which is set in advance for a one-year period running from June to the following May, generally does not take into account tracks that will be out of service for maintenance and construction projects.

However, the SYFA (system schedule, or Systemfahrplan) database, which contains the underlying data, specifies not just the train's route, but also the track, and thus can in the shorter term can take account of scheduled work projects that make a track between stations unavailable for a certain period.

But SYFA does not prescribe which track a train will use at each station, and thus does not take into account tracks at stations that are closed due to work projects.
