Train-routing display

The train-routing display (Zuglaufbild) is part of the train-routing system (Zuglenksystem). It shows the programmed routings (programmierte Fahrwege) for each train.

Specifically, it shows the pre-programmed, downstream track sections on the train's normal routing that the interlocking plant has not yet reserved for the train.

The train routing system is called "Zuglenkung 90" (for its year of origin).

Here is what the Altstetten operator sees on the train-routing display:

  • A list of the trains now moving through the territory of the Altstetten control center. Each train has one line in the display.

  • The first item on the far left of the line is the train's number.

  • Next comes a series of track sections that the train is supposed to traverse, but which have not yet been reserved for the train.

Here's how the screen looks:

version and more information.)

When the first track-section number is green, as in section 407 for train 79852 above, this means that the train has been cleared to (or is in) the green-coded track section (Abschnitt), but will not be automatically routed any further because it is not on its normal routing (Fahrstrasse).

If the train later regains its normal routing, automatic reservation of downstream track sections resumes.

For some track sections on the train-routing display, codes in red for one of the following rules may be present:

  • Operational conflict (Betriebsbehinderung): If trains are running on schedule, the train cannot proceed beyond this section until other trains have cleared.

  • Operator's decision point (Dispohalt): This section is a decision point for the operator (Fahrdienstleiter) in the control center, who must actively approve the train's moving beyond this point.

  • Halt: This is the train's first or last stop on its run.

  • Wait for another trains (Anschluss): The train waits here a specified time for passengers connecting from another train.

  • Time: The system will not clear the routing for the train beyond this point until shortly before the train's scheduled departure (or other fixed time of day).
